Test method

One variable, one hidden spot, one written result.

A bench test should be boring enough to stop. Etebu Bench avoids heroic restoration language because most household failures are made worse by speed: too much liquid, too much pressure, too much confidence, or a tool used before the material has been understood.

The method is simple. Photograph or describe the starting condition. Pick the least visible area. Change one thing only: moisture, brush, pressure, polish, adhesive, heat, or time. Wait long enough for the material to answer. If color, texture, smell, sound, or shape changes in the wrong direction, stop and record the result.

The best first test is small enough that a poor result remains a lesson, not a new repair problem.
